TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SIXTH MEETING
GENERAL CONFERENCE COMMITTEE

January 6, 1908

K0REA

A letter was read from James E Schultz, superintendent of the work In Korea, urging that a fund be provided in the spring for the purchase of land surrounding the school property recently secured at Won-har-e, so that the young men coming in for school training may have opportunity to support themselves by working the land. With the Japanese occupation, the price of land is rising, and he felt that immediate steps should be taken.

VOTED, That we approve of the general plan outlined by Brother Shultz for securing land for the Korean school, and that we refer the matter to the quorum of the Committee which will soon be gathered on the Pacific Coast.

Seventy-seventh Meeting
General Conference Committee
November 30, 1909

PRESENT:

A. G. Daniells, G. A. Irwin, I. H. Evans, G. B. Thompson, M. E. Kern, K. C. Russell, F. Griggs. Also W. A. Hennig.

W. R. Smith, KOREA:

In view of information from Korea, the following action was taken:--

VOTED, That the secretary of the Committee be instructed to write Brother W. R. Smith of Korea, expressing our earnest desire that he may make a successful warm-hearted missionary in Korea, winning souls to the Lord; and urging him, in view of former experiences, to assume a different and more considerate attitude toward the Koreans and his own fellow workers, overcoming what we believe to be a weakness in his work that has caused us much perplexity; and counseling him that the Committee feel that this change must be apparent in the new work and relations, else it would be inconsistent for the General Committee to continue his services in that field, the local Korean committee in that case, being authorized to provide transportation to America.

I. H. Evans told of the splendid work Dr. Russell had done as a missionary in Korea, ministering to the sick and preaching to the multitudes that thronged him, and teaching the school. Last year he was ordained to the ministry.
