1895 As a result of the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), China had to give up influence over Korea according to Article 1 of the Treaty of Maguan (the Treaty of Simonoseki), which was concluded between China and Japan in 1895. Consequently, Korea got independence from China. In 1895, Empress Myeongseong was assassinated by Japanese agents. 1897 In 1897, Joseon dynasty was renamed the Korean Empire(1897-1910), and King Gojong became Emperor Gojong. However, Japanese force annexed Korea, until on 15 August 1945. 1904 Russo-Japanese War Adventist work first begins in Korea. "In 1904, Seventh-day Adventist Christianity began with two pioneers, Son Heung Cho and Lee Eung Hyun who were baptized at the Kobe, Japan Seventh-day Adventist Church. Son returned to Korea to spread the Adventist message to his neighbors, and was joined by Im Ki Ban with whom he had shared the message on board ship. Now, there are 889 congregations in Korea. Source 2002 Typhoon Rusa profoundly affects the Adventist community. ANN, Sept. 10 2003 July 23. Twenty-five year old Adventist, Gwang-il Han, won the right to serve as a medic in the Korean Army. The Daejeon District Court ruled in his favor. He wanted to both fulfill a national service requirement and observe the Sabbath. ANN, July 29 2005 September. An intensive 18-month process of study, planning, and resourcing led to the launch of Adventist World. It is legally distinct from its parent journal, Adventist Review. It is funded through a special relationship with the Adventist Church in Korea. Adventist World 2009 December 13, 2008 the inauguration of the newly established SDA Migrants Mission Center.
